Deering Bedroom Addition

The homeowners wanted more bedroom space without losing the relationship between the house and backyard. The solution was to build a second story over an existing one-story addition, creating a generous bedroom with windows looking out into the trees.

Architect Kevin Moquin did an excellent job understanding what the clients wanted and getting the proportions right, from the windows and closets to the adjoining bathroom.

The most technically challenging part was tying the addition’s hip roof into the hip roof of the original house. The work took about four months, and the finished bedroom has a quality the clients were hoping for from the beginning: elevated, bright, and almost treehouse-like.
