Maine Audubon Education Center

Built for the Community

Maine Audubon came to us for a complete renovation of the building envelope at its education center in Falmouth. The project moved quickly, in about four and a half months, and although most of our previous projects were residential, the transition to a commercial project felt surprisingly natural.

The work went far beyond replacing siding. We removed deteriorated materials, repaired damaged sheathing and framing, installed a new water-resistive barrier, added 3½ inches of Maine-made Timberboard wood-fiber insulation, rebuilt window openings, created a rainscreen assembly, installed new windows and flashings, and finished the building in eastern white cedar shingles.

What really made the project memorable was the team. Noah and Joe at Maine Audubon, Sam at Kaplan Thompson Architects, and Michael Bruss at Helm Construction Solutions all shared a commitment to thoughtful building science and to Maine Audubon’s mission. It ended up feeling less like a conventional commercial job and more like building something alongside good friends.
