Falmouth Family ADU

This project brought us back to a familiar building. The existing house was the original Pretty Good House Matthew helped build in 2008, and years later the family needed additional space so a relative could age in place.
We designed the attached ADU to maintain the high-performance approach of the original house while improving on areas such as the windows. The available building envelope was tight, so the new space reaches almost literally to the allowable setback lines.
Construction ran through the middle of winter, and there was some urgency because the family member needed to move in. Despite the schedule and seasonal conditions, the goal remained the same: create a comfortable, beautiful extension of the original home that felt like it belonged there from the beginning.
